Digital India - Technology-Driven, Human-Centric Revolution

The Post Independent India witnessed revolutions that marked the beginning of a completely new era in various socio-economic fields like production in Petroleum, Fish, Leather, Cocoa, Jute, Horticulture, Honey, Fruit, Agriculture, Fertilizers, Onions, Prawn, Meat, Tomato, Potato, Cotton, Egg, Milk, Oil seed etc. On the other end we witnessed People losing their faith on Governance system mainly due to the hardship they had to endure - corruption, red-tapism, nepotism, injustice, discrimination, huge expenses, accessibility issues etc.

Digital India -A Revolution in Governance
Right decisions happen only when the right information reaches the right person at the right time.  We are witnessing a silent revolution in Governance which is bound to change the future of our nation. The Information Technology revolution - Digital India has changed the lives of millions of people in our nation directly and indirectly. We have entered a century where industries will be talent-based. Hence it is the need of the hour to adapt cutting edge technologies which will change the outlook of the society, bringing welfare to the people in all walks of life.

After four years since the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Digital India initiative, if we analyze it, we find it to be one of the bold decisions taken by the Government of India for the welfare of its citizens – a “Revolution in Governance" which focuses on the principle of 'People First.' It changed the future of our nation - transform India digitally, empowered society, above all it brought back transparency, accountability and efficiency in the delivery of services with reduced turnaround time.

The efficient utilization of the Digital Technologies has impacted much to improve the quality of social life in our society i.e. life - in the form of better health, education, infrastructure and other social indicators. The hassle-free digital solution for the citizens’ day to day needs which directly or indirectly saves their valuable time, energy and money. The nine pillars of Digital India accelerated the mission objectives though the Project is yet to cover a long way. The Broadband highways, Universal access to Mobile connectivity, Public Internet access programs, Reforming Governance through Technology, Electronic delivery of Services, Information for all, Electronics Manufacturing focused on Zero Imports, IT for Jobs, and Early Harvest Programs added strength to the Digital India Revolution.

We need to go a long way ahead and we need to move with the same rhythm in the years to come by integrating the discoveries and developments in all fields of Science & Technology and utilize the same for the welfare of the state to usher in immense growth and prosperity to the Nation. We need to give priority to Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) -Technology Vision Document 2035 this document focuses a vision about our country and its citizens in the year 2035 and how technology should bring this vision to fruition. The need to develop a consortium that combines Government, Academia, International collaboration and involve the Private sector participation which will help India to be a Vibrant Digital India in the years to come.

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam believed that a country's future depends on its people, and his teachings focused on human development. Dr. Kalam strongly advocated an action plan to develop India into a "Knowledge Superpower" and a developed nation by the year 2020. According to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Innovation is the key to realizing the dreams of 'New India' Indians are blessed to have Visionaries who were the torch bearers with “Nation India focus”

The Fourth Industrial Revolution describes the exponential changes to the way we live, work and think - 'the mantra to success is to be unique.' The responsibility of the national development rests on the shoulders of its citizens, as the world doesn't belong to us, we belong to it. India being a county with 135 Crore population the success of the  Digital India initiative goes to the relentless efforts of the Politicians, Administrators, Scientists, Engineers, Academia, Research scholars,  Universities, Organizations, Media etc. with each one contributing valued addition to develop India as a Vibrant Digital hub of the World.
